Europa Cup Havirov, day 1, Jaromir Kokes
Jaromir Kokes: I was looking forward to the discipline called ‘Symphony in Blooms’ the most, so I created the decoration to include the whole construction as the first one. I hope that it will convey my main thoughts and fascinate everybody the same way as it did me.
Task 1: Symphony in Blooms What can you tell us about your ‘Symphony in Blooms’?
I was looking forward to the discipline called ‘Symphony in Blooms’ the most, so I created the decoration to include the whole construction as the first one. I hope that it will convey my main thoughts and fascinate everybody the same way as it did me.
‘Symphony in Blooms’ What or who were your sources for inspiration for your ‘Symphony in Blooms’ creation and why?
The inspiration for my creation was the life and work of Antonin Dvorak. First of all, the period when he liked travelling by train around the picturesque Czech countryside. His well-known piano work called ‘Humoresque’ comes from a melody emitted by the train as it goes across the sleepers. The interconnection of music, the Czech countryside and the rails is represented in my work by a grand piano construction made from corrosive metal. This construction shows the poor background Antonin Dvorak came from. Flowers in the decoration are inspired by the Czech countryside. I also used gilded parts of flowers to show his other life in famous concert halls.
Task 2: The Youngest City How can we recognize the youngest city ‘Havirov’ in your arrangement? What effect do the Gerberas add to the creation?
This work is inspired by an architectural element that is a dominant feature of the Republic Square in Havirov. I wanted to connect a modern-day look and the history of the city, so I chose to make the whole construction from wood and it is finished by a special technology called ‘carbonization‘. It reflects the original plan for founding a city for the coalminers.
Gerberas are the other symbol of the city of Havirov, specifically a flower corsage called ‘Havirov in Bloom’. They put the finishing touch to the general harmony, interconnection and symbolism.
How can we recognize your style in general? And how is this expressed in this creation?
I like using Czech flowers, materials and products in my decorations very much. That can be considered as my style. You can also see it in my creations here, for the Europa Cup 2011 in Havirov.
This is very evident in the decoration of ‘The youngest city’, where the plant material used was grown in the Faculty of Horticulture in Lednice, in the Czech Republic. The wood used in the construction, which was created in the Czech Republic, is also from trees grown in Czech woods.
The design as such, or at least an important element of it, needs to be innovative. What is the innovative element in your creation?
I chose the special finishing procedure of the wooden surface, carbonization, as the innovation. It makes ordinarily porous wooden surfaces waterproof. This means it is not necessary to use ampoules, containers or floral foam in the part where the water is.
Task 3: Bridal Bouquet in the colours of EC 2011-logo. What can you tell us about your bridal bouquet? Which techniques did you use?
The task brief says it should be inspired by the colours of the Europa Cup 2011 Havirov logo, so I followed it. As summer ends and autumn begins, a wide range of plants and fruits in this colourful combination appears in the natural world. For this reason, I decided to use them for the bridal bouquet and to show off their beauty.
I did not use only one technique but a combination of several of them
Can you describe the personality of the bride you made this bouquet for?
The current trend is a return to nature using high-tech materials. Therefore the bride who carries this bridal bouquet should be a modern, grounded, lively woman who is so expressive and eye-catching herself that the eye-catching variety of colours in the bridal bouquet simply enhances her natural beauty.
Who are you going to call first in case you win this competition
I would not call anybody in particular but I would send an SMS to everybody in my phonebook to let my folks at home and fans know I have won.
