Nadine Weckardt became the European Champion of Floral Art 2007 during the competition in Slovenia in September. Dutch Creations invited her to come and visit the Dutch authoritative breeding companies, which she did together with her business partner, Stefan Göttle.
During this visit, we found the time to ask Nadine some questions about her life, her passion for her profession and of course about the European Championship.
"In Velenje we worked with many of your products. I felt that the quality of the Dutch Creations products were amazing."
During the European Championship, you worked with many Dutch Creations products, as Dutch Creations sponsored the flowers. Can you tell us something about the products?
"In Velenje we worked with basics, standard products like roses, carnations and gerberas. I felt that the quality of the Dutch Creations products were amazing. A week before the competition the products were delivered to the location and they were transported dry. In my opinion, this is not an optimal condition for flowers. But they all still looked fine. So that is a big compliment for the quality of the flowers."
Now, you have visited the breeders of Dutch Creations, have you seen something interesting?
"Interesting is an understatement! I have visited Schreurs, Anthura and Fides and I saw so many things I would like to order! There are at least 50 or 60 varieties, I would immediately order when they are all available on the market."
Dutch Creations launched new search tools for florists on her website. What do you think about these tools?
"Dutch Creations took the effort to invent an instrument for florists where we can find a complete assortment. Whether you search for colour or about products, with a simple click you can find whatever you need. This is a step forward for all florists, we do not have to surf on the internet to find products from individual companies, you are offering us the whole range with one simple click. Florists can get so much information from your site. It is like a free magazine; very handy."
Did you enjoy your 'tour de Dutch Creations'?
"I had a great time and I learned a lot. I didn't know that breeding new varieties took so much time. An eye opener for me is that I understand now that growers do have a total different view on flowers than florists. We all work with flowers, but for growers not only the looks of a variety are important, there are so many other things to take into account for them."
Do you have any advice for us?
"To introduce Dutch Creations to more florists, you should continue the online activities but also you have to participate in Florist's fairs and give demonstrations, like you did at International Horti Fair and at Floral Movement. For florists it has so much impact to see other florists working and performing with your products."
