1500 gerberas in wonder-ment

Dutch Creations sponsored the great flower-arranging event in Alden Biesen (Bilzen) Belgium. The theme was East meets West.

In the Reuschenberg room, Annick Mertens and the Onverbloemd team created a very elegant project called: 1500 gerberas in wonder-ment!

Annick Mertens has tried to reach a younger audience with this creation. That is why she chose the flowers in these colours. Younger people particularly love bright colors, and these mini gerberas are very eye-catching - the bright orange, solid pink and strong red make a lovely combination. Petra van der Veen: "Normally I create heart-shaped arrangements, but this time I have tried to come up with arrangements in a blend of modern and classical styles. The result is a creation that represents both styles."

In the Reuschenberg room, Annick Mertens and the Onverbloemd team created a very elegant project called 1,500 gerberas in wonder-ment! The varieties used were: gerberas Suri®, Bison® and Banya®, Muehlenbeckia leaves and Lotus leaves. Other requirements: bowls (15 large and 30 small), polystyrene balls, Oasis blocks, brown acrylic paint and wooden supports.

The statement by Annick Mertens

Annick Mertens called this dazzling project: 1,500 gerberas in wonder-ment. To show that all the parts belong together she wrote on a blackboard: (photo 1281) The bowls give form to the space; The flowers to the beauty; The music to the silence.

The large table was filled with 15 large and 30 small grey bowls, filled with water. Small Muehlenbeckia leaves were scattered over part of the bowls.

An Oasis block keeps the bowls at the right angle

A piece of Oasis foam was placed in the other bowls to keep them at the right angle.

The project half-way through.

A wooden support was placed in the bowls to keep the gerberas in an upright position. Each ball was filled with gerberas in one color: red (Suri®), pink (Banya®) and orange (Bison®).

The lights in the room were dimmed and spotlights shone onto the flowers which created a mystical halo. The scene was rounded off with music from Sarah Brightman.
